In a strong show of support for sports and youth engagement, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday attended an I-League football match between Real Kashmir Football Club (RKFC) and Churchill Brothers Goa at the TRC Ground in Srinagar.
Accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner Secretary for Youth Services & Sports, the Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, and other senior officials, the Chief Minister joined a spirited local crowd that had gathered to cheer on their home team.
The Chief Minister’s presence at the match underscores the government’s commitment to promoting football in Jammu and Kashmir as a powerful tool for youth engagement, community building, and positive change. He reiterated his vision of giving a significant impetus to the sport, recognizing it as a “game changer” that can channel the energy and talent of the Valley’s youth in a constructive direction.
“Football is more than just a sport — it’s an opportunity. It brings our young people together, instills discipline, and opens new doors,” the Chief Minister said on the sidelines of the match. “Real Kashmir FC has become a symbol of hope and aspiration, and we want to build on that momentum.”
