Ahmad Banday, Amir Sofi joined Elegant Strikers
Srinagar, Apr 7: In a major boost to the Elegant Strikers, top Kashmiri cricketer Ahmad Banday has joined the team as captain while Amir Sofi has taken over as vice-captain.
The two well-known players, who regularly play big tournaments across the Valley, are expected to strengthen the squad in upcoming competitions. Elegant Strikers, owned by senior cricketer and CEO of Downtown Champions League Naseer Ahmad Bhat, has been active since its launch in 2012 and continues to participate in major tournaments.
Cricket enjoys massive popularity across Kashmir, with youngsters passionately following local leagues and aspiring to play for top teams. Grounds in downtown Srinagar and other districts often stay packed during matches, as fans turn out in large numbers to cheer their favorite players and teams.
Along with Banday and Sofi, other notable players like Meraan and Sajad Sultan have also joined the team. Management says more big names are expected to join in the coming years.
In the past, several prominent cricketers such as Syed Sagar, Khalid Bhat, Aamir Aziz, and Manzoor Ilahi have played for Elegant Strikers, making it one of the most recognized teams
