Commissioner SMC meets top level officials from various departments to discuss Animal welfare related issues.
SRINAGAR: Mr.Ather Amir Khan, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation along with Dr SK Mittal , Convenor and member Jallikatu Inspection Committee (Animal Welfare Board of India) today chaired a meeting SMC central Office complex to review regularization of private slaughter houses, transportation of livestock and Animal welfare related issues within the SMC limits. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Nodal Officer Animal Welfare, Department of Animal Husbandry, Joint Commissioner (Adm) SMC, Assistant Commissioner Food and Drug Control Organization, Representatives from Urban Forestry, Health Officer /MVO SMC, representatives from Police Department,
In the meeting, Commissioner SMC presented the detailed status of the construction of Modern Animal Slaughter House in the Srinagar city. Being one of the major meat consuming city, there is dire need to intensify the random check of butcher shops Worthy Commissioner instructed, while addressing the officials.
In order to check the transportation of cattle within SMC limits, Mr. Athar directed the concerned officials to keep strict vigil on cattle transportation. While instructing officials to strengthen the inspection at check posts, Mr Ather enjoined upon the concerned officials to ensure the foolproof checking of vehicles carrying cattle according to Animal Transportation Act.
On the occasion while passing directions to officials representing Animal Husbandry, Worthy Commissioner directed the officials to ensure that emergency Mobile Vans for animals are made easily available wherever the need arises. Asking the concerned officials to utilize the services of Municipal Control Room for the purpose, Mr. Ather suggested that social media should be extensively used to inform general masses about the services available.
