No Force Used to Regulate Muharram Procession in Srinagar’: Police
Says Chronic Mischievous Tendency to Spread Fake News/Rumours by Vested Interest to be dealt with law
Srinagar, Aug 8 (GNS): Police in Srinagar categorically negated the reports suggesting ‘use of force to regulate Muharram procession’ in Summer Capital on Sunday last.
“Some fake news (reports) are being circulated by vested interests about yesterday’s Muharram by using old pictures and sharing them with oblivious media outside Kashmir. It is again categorically told that no force was used to regulate one Muharram route yesterday (banned since many decades)”, said a police spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS.
“Muharram processions are being peacefully held all over Srinagar, only 2 routes aren’t allowed among 100 others which are allowed”, the spokesperson said adding “the two aren’t allowed due to possibility of sectarian clashes/ law & order”.
“The chronic mischievous tendency of some vested interests to spread fake news with intentions of fomenting trouble in the City will be dealt with law”, the statement reads.
“Srinagar Police is a professional force and is well aware of its duties of maintaining law and order in city”, the statement concludes. (GNS)
