Resigned just to work in maintenance politics now;Farooq khan

Srinagar,CNS,21-Mar; One of the Advisors to the J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Farooq Khan, submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Sunday to make a political foray.

A retired IPS officer who was instrumental in breaking the backbone of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in the early 1990s, Khan had earlier served as a national secretary of the BJP and held various posts in the party’s minority cell.

As per the sources, the 67-year-old is likely to be assigned the responsibility of preparing the party for the first assembly elections in the union territory. Though the poll schedule has not been announced yet, the officials expect that the elections will be held after October following completion of the ongoing delimitation exercise by May.

While speaking to CNS, Khan said there is no truth to the reports that I’m going to take up some political assignment. There is no political assignment as on date. I have just put in my papers requesting them that I would like to work in the political field now. Confirming the news about his resignation and setting the records straight with regard to reports about “getting new political role.”

The development came a day after the two-day visit of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to J&K thus fuelling a lot of speculations, ranging from “getting some important political assignment” to linking the move to “gearing up for ensuing assembly elections.”

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has now been left with only one Advisor—Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar, who is Retired Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Another Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Bashir Khan resigned on October 5, 2021 after his name figured in fake gun license racket. Prior to that, Advisor KK Sharma was appointed as the State Election Commissioner (SEC).(CNS)
