Commissioner SMC convenes meeting to review waste and sewage management in the city.
Srinagar, October 20th, 2022: Athar Amir Khan, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation today convened a meeting of top level officers from Corporation to review the implementation of Solid Waste Management and Sewage Management in the city. The meeting was attended by FA/CAO, JCW, XEN (R), AAO, Chief Sanitation Officer and SWM Consultants and other Senior officials from SMC. While passing many directions in the meeting, Worthy Commissioner SMC asked the concerned officials to ensure the collection of 100% segregated waste at household level by December this year. Instructing the concerned officials to carry out the augmentation of necessary transport fleet mainly comprising of Hoopers, He also sought the timely closure of all open garbage collection points.
The participants in the meeting had also a threadbare discussion on Garbage Transfer Stations. During the meeting, the Commissioner was apprised that tenders regarding the setting up of GTS have been already floated and are presently under technical evaluation.
On the occasion, Worthy Commissioner SMC also asked the concerned officials to accelerate the construction of Land Fill Cell No. IV, Platform for windrow composting of waste and material recovery, bio-remediation of legacy waste and other interventions as approved in the Action Plan for SWM of the Srinagar City. While deciding to outsource the operation and maintenance of the dumping site at Achan, the participants in the meeting unanimously passed that the processing of waste at the site shall be also outsourced, as the Consultants were directed to prepare a DPR and RFP in this regard within week. The Worthy Commissioner also directed the SWM Consultants to prepare DPR and RFP for 50 TPD capacity Construction & Demolition Waste Processing facilities by the end of current month.
