A brief report on Ba Chhus Funkar by Altaf Hussain
A week long ‘Spring Festival’ which was inaugurated on World Theatre Day on 27th March, 2022 at Tagore hall as a joint venture of J&K Academy of Art, Culture &Languages and Actor’s Creative Theatre showcased twenty four stage plays. In this festival Young Dramatist Society presented a play under the title: Ba Chhus Funkar (Kashmiri Play) on Ist April, 2022 at 3:30 pm. The play was written and Directed by Mr. Altaf Hussain, a reputed theatre director of the Valley. The play depicted the plight of the artists in the present era. Artists in the likes of Mr. Hassan Javed, Mr. Syed Shabir Rezvi, Mr. Javed Ahmad Khan, Ms. Sanam Ziya and Mr. Dharmindar besides budding artist like Mr. Kamran Shah, Mr. Amin Hussain and Fuzial Farooq.
The play was aimed to bring at fore the quandary of four actors who are keen to go ahead in spite of hardships and mistreatment on daily basis. The comedy genre was fixed apt to showcase the hidden agendas of the Theatre World, wherein, talent is pushed back to the wall and influential are promoted and raised to the status of stars, leading the talented actors to rely on low waged jobs.
The play was valued for its subtle theme and presentation. The audience comprised up of students and theatre lovers appreciated the director and the actors in exposing the otherwise hitherto unaddressed saga of actors who perform on the stage but in the backdrop of their acting career, their suffering and struggle forced them either to give up or to shun acting. The writer has brilliantly portrayed them on the stage with a realist theme that has been happening behind the curtains of their real life.
