HELP FOUNDATION, J&K IN ASSOCIATION WITH CHILDLINE SRINAGAR 1098 & SHEHJAR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CENTRE CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2022.
International Women’s Day is celebrated in the world over, every year on the 8th day of March. It celebrates womanhood and pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe. Its root lies in the early 1900s when oppression and inequality was spurring women to become more vocal and active in campaigning for change.
The main objective of celebrating this programme was to create awareness of gender equality for a healthy society. Also the milestone to be reached that ‘in every family the priority should be that girl child should be educated, that will further result in overall development of the community and the nation”.
In this regard, HELP Foundation J&K in association with Childline Srinagar 1098 & Shehjar Women Empowerment Centre celebrated, “The International Women’s Day at Bait-ul-Meeras, Aalikadal Srinagar”. The title of the programme was “Commemoration of International Women’s Day”.
HELP Foundation invited various women dignitaries to commemorate the function. The prominent among the invitees were Ms Hameeda Ji (General Manager DIC), Ms Mehmeet Syed (Prominent Kashmiri singer), Ms Rubi Zutshi (Professor Institute of Music & Fine Arts Kashmir University), Ms Rafia Rasool (prominent cartoonist) and others. The programme was chaired by Ms Ayesha Saleem (Trustee HELP Foundation). The audience consisted of common women and girls.
The speakers highlighted the role of women in family and in the society and shared their life stories and personal experiences with the audiences. They motivated them to remain strong in the face of adversities. The fact was highlighted that women have a very important role in making a healthy and robust society, but they do not need to compete with men and in fact women are far superior to men in her roles as a mother, as a homemaker, as a sister and as wife. They should play their role as important partners in the society and in the family. However they emphasised the fact that in today’s world women need to get educated, learn skills and be economically independent so that they can support themselves as well as their families.
One of the speakers gave the historical background of the day and informed that the day was commemorated in early 20th century when despite working for equal hours, women were paid less salary than men and they were also deprived of voting rights and other political privileges.
They advised the girls and women participants to fix their goals in their lives and work hard to achieve them. Some of them gave their personal examples of how they faced challenges at personal level but still went ahead, with their will and determination and overcame the hurdles and achieved success.
At the conclusion vote of thanks was presented by Ms. Ayesha Saleem Trustee
