Ahead of R-Day, Security tightened in Kashmir Valley
Srinagar,CNS,21-Jan; Security has been beefed up in Srinagar and other places in Kashmir ahead of the Republic Day as forces have been deployed in massive numbers around the venues of the January 26 functions across the valley.
The presence of security forces around vital installations in and around the city as well as other district headquarters has been increased and Random checking of vehicles and frisking of passengers is being done at several places,
Security has also been strengthened around the venues for the Republic Day functions, including around Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here where the main function in the valley would take place.
Security forces have been asked to remain alert and more check-points have been erected and in the city.
The officials said a thick layer of security has been thrown around the venue – a few kilometres away from the Lal Chowk city centre here – and the area has been sanitised.
A senior police officer told CNS that security has been beefed across the valley ahead of January 26 celebrations with forces keeping a tight vigil in areas of Srinagar and adjoining areas.
He said the situation in the Valley has improved as compared to the past few years. The latest technology including induction of ‘Black Panther’ Command Control Vehicles and CCTV cameras has helped us to monitor the situation closely in the City,” he said.
“To prevent terror groups from entering the city, areas that border Srinagar remain under our main focus. We have set up makeshift bunkers to keep track of the situation and streamline the visitors,” the officer said.
As per the official, there won’t be any additional placement of paramilitary troops and bunkers, as the number of forces currently stationed in the city is enough to maintain the Law & Order situation.(CNS)
