Joint Market checking held in Bandipora; Rs 4000 fine imposed on erring traders

Bandipora CNS, Dec 23: On directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmed, a market checking squad of Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) and Revenue held a market checking in Bandipora and realized a fine of Rs 4000 from erring shopkeepers in Bandipora.

Taking strong note of the complaints of violation of Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) and over-pricing, the district administration launched a massive district-wide inspection drive to curb over pricing and take immediate action against instances of CAB violations.

The team lead by Naib-Tehsildar Zeeshan Fazli and other officers conducted inspection of various business establishments including vegetable, fruit sellers, Kiryana, Bakery, and other business establishments at different markets of Bandipora. During the inspection, several traders were booked under different laws for violation of various laws and a fine of Rs 4000 was imposed on erring traders.

On the occasion, Officers stressed on adopting covid appropriate behavior by following all precautionary measures including use of face masks and urged the traders to avoid over-pricing and other illegal and unethical practices. Officers also asked the vendors to follow the packaged commodity rules and other Metrology Acts besides following Covid SOPs strictly.

DC Bandiporain a statement to CNS, said that the drive will continue on a regular basis across all district markets to keep a check on traders and shopkeepers for indulging in overcharging and other unethical activities besides directing officers to ensure strict implementation of CAB.

He said he has directed all the concerned officers to ensure regular inspections of markets and under crowded areas falling within their respective jurisdiction and take strict action against those indulging in overpricing and other malpractices.(CNS)
