Dead, 2 Dozen Injured in Akhnoor Pilgrim Bus Mishap

Srinagar, May 30 (GNS): At least seven pilgrims are confirmed dead and almost two dozen persons injured after a bus they were on board plunged into a deep gorge along Jammu-Poonch highway this afternoon.
An official told GNS that a bus (UP81CT-4058) carrying pilgrims from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, to Shiv Khori plunged in an around 150 ft. deep gorge near Chungi Mode at Chowki Choura between Akhnoor and Bhambla.
“At least seven persons on board the bus are confirmed to have died in the tragic incident and some twenty-three persons already evacuated from the site for treatment,” the official said.
Among the injured persons, as per the official, include; Krishna (13), Jai Beer Singh (42), Subash Chand (39), Sanjay Kumar (40), Shanti (65), Bila Devi (50), Radhika (28), Satveer (37), Gomita (24), Ankusha (5), Sunita (35), Jatin (17), Kajal (16), Geeta Devi (25), Amarabati (59), Kamlesh (45), Anju (18), Raghuvir Singh (70) – from Uttar Pradesh, and Yagusha (32), Rajwati (59) and Munni Devi (50).
“The rescue operation continues at the site,” said the official.
