The 237th session of the Fiction Writers’ Guild was presided over by the eminent broadcaster, poet, and critic, Dr. Satish Vimal. Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, HoD Hindi and Sanskrit, Kashmir University was the guest of honour. One short story in Kashmiri by Shaista Bukhari, entitled “Identity Card”, and another in Hindi was presented by Dr. Shabnum, Sec. Academic Officer SCERT, entitled “Ladoo”. As a starter, Ibtidaya, entitled Kashmir Mein Hindi Ki Wardeman Setti, was presented by Dr. Umer Ahmad. A lot of debate and discourse on art and literature made this session a remarkable one. Dr. Mehraj-ud-din’s deliberation on short stories initiated a lot of debate on the art and its requirements. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Dr. Satish Vimal, elaborated on Art and its scope. His lecture on fiction not only opened new doors for the writers presented in the session, but also marked the extraordinary opportunities of Art by way of exploring the likelihoods of writing. Stressing upon the needs of a writer, Dr. Satish also updated the writers about the World literature. The Fiction Writers’ Guild is keen to promote quality fiction work irrespective of language and region. A lot of scholars from the Hindi department of Kashmir University attended the session, and it was a new learning for the budding writers to know more about the expansion of Hindi fiction writing. Dr. Sabzar’s Urdu translated book Ibn ‘Arabi: Heir to the Prophets by William Chettick was also officially released in the session. Engr. Shafi Ahmad, General Secretary of Fiction Writers’ Guild in his vote of thanks not only thanked the participants, but also ensured that quality fiction will always find its place in the sessions. He urged that young writers must attend these literary sessions to cuspidate their writing skills.
